Initially an idea thought up by several members of the previous Isle of Bute Celtic Supporters Club (Tommy McNally and Gerry McGuigan) after so many years without a Supporters Club on the island, a meeting was called in the Galatea Bar to see what kind of interest there was for forming a club. Those who arranged the meeting were overwhelmed by the number of people who came that July night and it was agreed that a new Club should be formed and a date was set for an AGM to get the ball rolling. So it was to be that the Club was founded at the beginning of Season 1989/90 and after much discussion Glen Daly was put forward because of his long association with Rothesay, where he appeared regularly in the Winter Gardens, the town to which he retired to and the fact that generations of Celtic fans had learned that it was "A grand old team to play for AND support" because of him. Therefore his widow was approached for her permission to name the Club after Glen and she was delighted for his name to be used as such. A competition was also organised for members to design a club badge with the winner, Craig Charker, being offered a choice of one of the first jumpers made or a pair of match tickets to a match of his choice. Craig chose the former! Over the years the Club has organised a number of dances, social nights and fund raisers, both for the Club and also for local charities. The most prominent being in 1991 when the Club organised a Dinner Dance to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the release of "The Celtic Song". This was attended by Davie Provan, David Hay and then Club Captain Paul McStay who was presented with a large engraved mirror, which is still on display on the main stair case at Celtic Park. Another being a fund raiser for the Club in 1990 held in the Glenburn Hotel where the star act was none other than Frank Carson! The Club holds its monthly meetings in the Galatea Bar on Castle Street on the 1st Sunday of each month and run buses to most home matches at Celtic Park and non-members are more than welcome to travel with the Club.
